Good afternoon Clovis Unified families,
We are excited to share news today that the remaining secondary students who opted for in-person instruction will be returning to our campuses the week of February 22! The additional secondary students returning to campus that week will join other elementary and secondary students already on-site for instruction at all schools in the District.
This news comes after both CDPH’s approval of our request for clarification that our secondary schools meet their definition of “open,” and this morning’s announcement by Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) that students at all grade levels of schools already open may continue with the return of students still waiting for the start of in-person, hybrid instruction.
Please watch this video from Superintendent Eimear O’Farrell, Ed.D., (https://vimeo.com/511755808/29a9f441af) with more information for families. We also encourage those families of secondary students enrolled for hybrid instruction but not yet on campus to watch for more information next week from your student’s school.
Together, we’ve got this!
Team Clovis Unified

Q. Why can we return secondary students if case rates in Fresno County have not yet reached 25 per 100k population?
A. Fresno County Department of Public Health is in possession of real-time data for our local COVID conditions and based on continued declines in the daily case counts and positivity rates and based on these improvements and their continued work with CDPH released the county’s secondary schools that were already open to continue with their secondary student returns. They took similar action for elementary schools on February 3. A copy of their letter is available on our website at https://www.cusd.com/BacktoSchool2020-21.aspx.
Q. The County’s letter today states that secondary students in Fresno County can return as early as Feb. 16, why are we waiting until the following week?
A. We recognize that giving families only a weekend is insufficient to prepare for a potentially significant change in their family’s schedule and we want to provide our secondary teams with time to do a final review of health and safety protocols with families and staff, and complete logistics that could not be finalized until we had a set date for return. Families are encouraged to use next week to review our health and safety guidance that students will follow while on campus, and to arrange transportation and schedules to allow for students enrolled in hybrid to be on site. Individual secondary schools will communicate specific details to families about their respective on-site safety procedures and plans for the first week on campus.
Q. Where can I find details of the health and safety procedures in place to protect staff and students while they are on campus?
A. Our website contains lots of information about these protocols as do individual school websites. Find information at https://www.cusd.com/BacktoSchool2020-21.aspx.
